Our Lookout Discovery Centre Trip

We had a great day yesterday visiting the Lookout Discovery Centre near Bracknell. We went in a number of different rooms, exploring the activities including building a house and moving a floating ball without touching it!

We also went on a very exciting mini-beast hunt where we found spiders, a harvestman and woodlice. The sun was shining so we ate our lunch outside and made the most of the weather.

Thank you to all of the adults who came along to help. Your support was much appreciated.

Minibeasts

Our topic this term is minibeasts and we have had so much fun going on minibeast hunts. We have looked at worms, snails, spiders, wasps and bees and next week we will be studying ladybirds.

Can you find any minibeasts in your garden or in the local environment?

Next week, we are working on doubling and halving the spots on a ladybird.

Welcome back to the summer term!

Welcome back Sunflower class.

We hope you had a lovely holiday and we really enjoyed hearing about your trips to Disneyland, the Eiffel Tower and your friends and family's houses.

This week we've been busy getting ready for the opening of our airport on Monday. We now have check-in, departures, a cafe and a plane. We will let you know how we get on.

Easter

This week, we're busy making lots of different Easter things including Easter egg nests and we've drawn daffodil pictures. Outside we've also been making nests using real materials, one of which can be seen in our spring tree below.

This week we've been focusing on why our mums are so special to us. It has been great to hear all of the children's lovely words they have to say about their mums.

For all of the mums, aunts and grandmas of the children in Sunflower class, Miss Pembroke and I hope you have a lovely, relaxing day this coming Sunday.

Happy Mother's Day!

Sunflower class, please let us know how you spoilt your mum on Mother's day.

I was a bit shocked to walk into class today as the children of Sunflower class seemed to have been transformed overnight! They had made their faces funny for Comic Relief and it was quite a sight and definitely made me smile.

The children have loved making number lines this week to practice their Maths, so here is the link to the crocodile number lines we made:

Our first week back

It's been an exciting week this week working on our new book 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.

We have planted magic beans inside and outside and we are seeing if they'll grow into a lovely beanstalk.

We also spoken about what would be at the top of our beanstalk. We've had Chocolate World, Dora the Explorer Land and a sweet shop.

I like the sound of a chocolate world! What would you and your family have at the top of their beanstalk?

We've also used our magic beans to learn about doubling and halving. Can you double these numbers?

3 =
6 =
2 =
4 =

Can you halve these?

6 =
4 =
8 =
2 =

Do you know what you would do if you had 5 cupcakes to halve?

Here is a clue as to what we'll be looking at next week:

Well this term certainly has flown by and in doing so, I apologise for the lack of blogs. We have been very busy looking at Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Chinese New Year, including getting ready for our Chinese New Year assembly. Thank you to those of you that were able to make it. We are always so pleased at how many people come to support the children.

We also started a new role-play area this term, which is a sports shop. Many of our children have enjoyed golf and tennis when they've been free choosing using real equipment and the sports shop changing room to make sure they are wearing the appropriate clothing.

As some of our children expressed an interest in Space, we decided we would also look at this topic. We've planned and built rockets, we've had races to the moon and we've written about where we would like to go if we were astronauts.

Please feel free to pop in any time if you would like to have a look around the classroom with your child and they can show you what they've been learning.

Miss Pembroke and I hope you have a lovely holiday and look forward to hearing about what you get up to when you get back. Please feel free to write on the blog or email us pictures and/or messages about what you've been doing at sunflowerchatsworth@gmail.com.

Unfortunately we cannot reply to this address but we can print out what is sent and add it to your child's learning journey.
